It's impossible to escape the Yuletide spirit on a trip to Iceland during the holidays - a visit to Reykjavik will be full of an awesome quantity of Holiday season delight. The city goes crazy for an excellent Christmas festivity, and starts ringing in the season in the beginning of December, with the illumination of the town's X-mas tree at Austurvöllur square. The celebration includes choirs singing carols and the arrival of the first of the "Holiday Lads," 13 Santas who perform all through town at the time of Lent.
Other favorite vacation sights also include the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður town, a small, merry town chock-full of stores offering for sale vacation presents and traditional foods amidst live entertainment, and a visit to Reykjavik's main Xmas Market place in Ingólfstorg Square, which fills with vendors selling holiday souvenirs, mulled wine and performances from a variety of musician and performers.
Finally, to experience an old-fashioned, Nordic Xmas, check out the Christmas event at the Reykjavik City Museum, where exhibits demonstrate how fried bread is produced, tallow is used to make candles, and vacationers can get to know traditional Yuletide verses and dances.
